TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre -- $7 million
The TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre is a joint project of the City of Spruce Grove, the Town of Stony Plain and Parkland County. In a unique approach, residents of all three municipalities determined the final design and components of the centre through public consultations. The centre opened to the public in June 2002 and offers people of all ages a place to compete, learn, exercise, meet and relax. It includes two NHL sized hockey rinks, leisure ice, an aquatic centre with a 10-lane, 25-metre pool, leisure pool, waterslide, hot tub and steam room. There are also a gymnasium, two soccer pitches, indoor fitness track, fitness centre, children's play centre, meeting rooms and space leased to a rehabilitation and sports medicine centre as well as restaurant and food concessions.
