To celebrate 100 years as a province is certainly important.
It was in Alberta's 75th year that the idea of building an active educational grain related fixture was suggested. The Canadian Grain Museum and Academy emerged.
The pioneer families came to Alberta with the intention to grow crops of grain and to raise livestock. The same intention had caused the people to build homes and grow grain along the river in ancient times.
The homestead families came to Alberta in order to obtain the right to grow and sell grain. The Grain Museum/Academy was built to be able to demonstrate the various stages of grain handling. A moving, active process is provided to the viewer and student. The intention was and is to stimulate the expression by a school age viewer – “Dad, I was part of the grain business in Alberta today”.
Thousands of school students visit the Grain Museum/Academy each year, hundreds of “Out of Canada” visitors also visit the facility each year and spend an hour or two seeing how Canadians handle the grain farmers have grown.
The Grain Museum/Academy salutes “One Hundred years of Agriculture" in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
The Canadian Grain Museum/Academy is located on the Plus 15 level, Roundup Centre at Stampede Park, Calgary, Alberta.
