As part of the province's Centennial celebrations, all Albertans born or married in 2005 will receive a special commemorative birth or marriage certificate.
The certificates will be sent out beginning in March, with expectations that by the end of 2005 more than 40,000 newborns and 17,000 married couples will have received or be receiving their Centennial certificates.
The commemorative birth certificate will include information about the Alberta Centennial Education Savings Plan, one of Alberta's major centennial initiatives announced in January 2005. The plan raises awareness about the importance of post-secondary education through the Alberta government's one-time contribution of $500 to any child born to Alberta residents in 2005 or later whose family has opened a Registered Education Savings Plan in the child's name.
