Beginning this month, artists from Alberta and Saskatchewan will begin creating hundreds of images for a centennial mural entitled Buffalo Twins.
Over 250 visual artists, musicians, world class athletes, politicians and others will paint 16x16 inch sections of the 336 piece mural. Each artist has been asked to use imagery symbolic of Alberta and/or Saskatchewan over the past 100 years as well as representing the artists' personal connection to the provinces.
No one will know what the final image is until it is assembled on the surface of the Ice Palace at West Edmonton Mall on April 1st and 2nd. The last 100 images will be created live for the public.
Once the mural is assembled, it will tour through various communities across Alberta and Saskatchewan including Edmonton, Grande Prairie, and Regina. The mural will even make a trip to Ottawa to participate in the Alberta Scene festival.
Workshops are being held throughout March for artists to pick up their panels and to learn about the process. The workshops will also display some well known artists, up-and-comers, and others who are participating in the project. See the workshop schedule if you are interested in seeing the project up close in your community.
