Albertans honoured National Aboriginal Day on June 21, 2005. It's a unique opportunity, particularly in our centennial year, to honour the heritage, cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people.
While the official day has already passed, events honouring the centennial and aboriginal people are taking place all over Alberta in local communities, schools and museums throughout the summer. Events range from traditional dancers, music, tipi villages, picnics, special tours, entertainment, and games.
Just some of those events include:
- Blackfoot entertainers and historians, story-telling and traditional games at Head Smashed-In-Buffalo Jump.
- Aboriginal hand games and cross cultural teachings in Grande Prairie at the Honouring our Elders - Past Present and Future celebration.
- Sun & Moon Visionaries & Partners Aboriginal Centennial Celebrations at Fort Edmonton Park on June 26.
- Treaty Seven First Nations and the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede: A Cross-Cultural Knowledge Exchange.
