The first 12 Albertans have been named for the Centennial Salute for Sport and Recreation award. This award will recognize a total of 100 individual Albertans during the province's centennial year for their outstanding contributions to the overall development of sport and recreation in Alberta.
The Alberta Centennial Salute for Sport and Recreation, launched in October 2004, is a once in a lifetime award that was jointly created by the Alberta government and the Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation (ASRPWF). It pays tribute to administrators, athletes, participants, builders, coaches, leaders and officials. Individual Albertans, community organizations as well as sport and recreation associations can nominate candidates to receive this special award.
The first recipients represent a legacy of excellence during the past century in the fields of sport, recreation and active living.
All recipients will be honoured at the Alberta Sport Hall of Fame and Museum on December 8. In recognition of their contributions, they will receive a specially designed Centennial Salute Scroll signed by the Premier and the Minister of Alberta Community Development, a Centennial pin, as well as recognition at the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.
Albertans have until June 30 to meet the second and final deadline for applications. Applicants who were not selected from the first round will be reconsidered during the final selection process.
