Celebrate Alberta's 100th anniversary with music by the Emeralds, historic demonstrations, children's activities and more during Centennial Pioneer Day at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village on Sunday, July 10, 2005.
This event features internationally acclaimed music sensation the Emeralds, who are famous for their Bird Dance. They will be performing along with the Vissia Sisters, Bob Ashmead and the Sterling Strings Band. Additional performers include the Prairie Rose Band, Emily Seal, Harmony Trio & Friends and the Misha Moroz & Friends Band. The stage show starts at 1:00 p.m.
Highlights of the event include historic exhibits, displays and activities such as sheep shearing and old-fashioned shingle making. Try butter churning, sewing, cream separating, ice cream making, grain grinding and more. See the Morse Telegraphers send out real Morse code messages at the Bellis Train Station and meet Mac The Ox, who at only four years old weighs over 3,000 pounds.
Children's activities include face painting, games and the Thistle Hill Petting Zoo.
While at the village, explore Rescuing Heritage: Salvaging a Century of East Central Alberta's History. This exhibit tells the stories of historic buildings and explains the acquisition, restoration and research process used to revive them.
The village is open daily 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until Labour Day. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, $4 for youth (ages 7-17) and $20 for families (two adults and two children). Children six and under are admitted free. For free admission, show your current Great Alberta Pass or Friends of the Ukrainian Village Society membership card.
