Special Exhibit Details Alberta's birth as a Province

"With glorious weather and crowds of true hearted people, Alberta burst her Territorial bonds on Friday Sept. 1." - The Farmers Advocate, September 6, 1905

Celebrate a new exhibit reliving the pride and enthusiasm felt in our communities when Alberta became a province in 1905. An evening program at the Provincial Archives of Alberta on August 17 includes a presentation detailing the exhibit's creation, personal tours by archives' staff and light refreshments. The event is free and begins at 7:00 p.m.

Alberta a Province: Inauguration Day follows the events of September first that began with a grand parade and ended with the Royal North West Mounted Police royal salute. On display are items from the Ernest Brown finds, including images of Governor General Sir Earl Grey, Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier and Lieutenant Governor H.V. Bulyea taking part in this historic day. The exhibit also presents media coverage of our province's entry into Confederation.

The archives are located at 8555 Roper Road in Edmonton. For further information, visit www.cd.gov.ab.ca/paa or phone (780) 427-1750.
