First Albertans Receive Alberta Centennial Medal

Members of the Alberta Order of Excellence, the province's highest honour, were the first Albertans to receive the special, one-time commemorative centennial medal.

The medals were presented by the Honourable Norman L. Kwong CM, AOE, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta and Chancellor of the Order, on the grounds of historic Government House in Edmonton on August 21. The event was the first reunion of the members of the Alberta Order of Excellence in its 26-year history. 

About 8000 centennial medals will be awarded to recognize the significant contributions of extraordinary Albertans during the province's centennial year.
