Celebrate Alberta Teams at AlbertaSpirit Party of the Century

Two teams of talented high school students will bring Alberta history alive at AlbertaSpirit Party of the Century events in both Calgary and Edmonton on September 1. The teams are part of a wide range of entertainment being offered at the Alberta Legislature grounds and Brilliant City Centennial Festival events in Calgary throughout the evening.

Celebrate Alberta Team members have entertained thousands of Albertans at more than 40 different events this summer. The 20 talented high school students have re-enacted colorful stories from the province's past century and helped to promote the Alberta Centennial.

The vignettes depict the events and personalities of Alberta history, including the legendary flight of pilot Wop May to deliver life-saving medicine, the world famous Alberta Grads basketball team, the story of Guy Weadick, who created the Calgary Stampede, the scientific marvel of Vegreville's most famous landmark, and how Alberta has remained North America's only rat-free zone, among others.

The Edmonton Celebrate Alberta Team will perform each hour between 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. near the LRT/ETS bus stop on the north end of the Alberta Legislature grounds. The Calgary Celebrate Alberta Team will perform at 3:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on the northwest corner of Olympic Plaza.

Shaw Cable is broadcasting performances of Celebrate Alberta Team members, as well as film footage captured by team members as they traveled the province.
