Calgary's public school students are celebrating Alberta's 100th birthday by honouring 20 men and women who made a significant contribution to the city of Calgary.
The CBE Centennial project involved public schools in identifying Calgarians who they thought made Alberta a better place to live over the past 100 years. Some schools researched their namesakes; others researched and nominated prominent Calgarians. More than 80 individuals were nominated.
After months of reflection, consideration and deliberation by students and staff - the results for the top 20 Calgarians are in. Voting results were close - but in the end, the following (listed in alphabetical order) emerged as the most notable Calgarians:
