With over 100 years of history, the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede has amassed a vast collection of memorabilia and that material is now available online in the Calgary Stampede digital archives.
The collection features historically significant material from the Stampede's archives including postcards, posters, souvenir programs, Stampede prize lists and rules, annual reports and bull/cattle sale catalogues. By archiving the historical records and memorabilia of Alberta's unique western heritage, people from around the world will have the opportunity to research the history of southern Alberta and the Stampede. The Stampede is working towards digitizing all paper artifacts as well as three-dimensional items such trophies, belt buckles, Stampede royalty dresses and bronze statues.
The Stampede collection is part of the larger Our Future, Our Past: The Alberta Heritage Digitization Project. The website, www.ourfutureourpast.com, provides immediate access to Alberta art; aerial photographs; early Alberta newspapers; folklore; retrospective legal material; medical and local histories, and inculdes a diverse range of personal, community, business, and governmental perspectives on Alberta's culture and history.
