The Edmonton Eskimos and Saskatchewan Roughriders recognized their provinces' 100th birthdays by turning up the heat on their decades-old rivalry.
The Centennial Gridiron Gridiron Challenge took advantage of two regularly scheduled CFL games between the two teams. The first game was in Regina on September 18; the second game was in Edmonton on October 15th. The winner of the Centennial Gridiron Challenge was to be determined by the total points in both games, but the battle for the cup ended in a neighbourly tie! The trophy itself will reside in Lloydminster until the next challenge in 2105.
Both teams also invited fans to vote for their favourite players of all time and give them the honour of being named to Eskimo and Roughriders All-Century Teams. Alberta's Lieutenant Governor, Norman Kwong, a former fullback, made the Eskimo's All-Century Team.
