The Provincial Museum of Alberta first opened in 1967. The museum was renamed the Royal Alberta Museum during Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to Edmonton, May 24, 2005. It will be fully renovated and renewed in commemoration of Alberta's centennial. The revitalized facility will be a tourist destination for the province and will help Albertans connect with their history and the world.
As part of the Centennial legacy program, the former Habitat Gallery was replaced by the Wild Alberta display – in partnership with Federation of Alberta Naturalists. Wild Alberta leads visitors on a journey of discovery across, over and even under Alberta’s diverse landscapes, encountering the natural world from new perspectives. Wild Alberta examines how human culture is shaping the modern wilderness and how our actions, both positive and negative, have an impact. It includes many interact features and a classroom component.
