The Government of Alberta has created a number of grant programs to help municipalities and non-profit groups with their centennial projects.
Alberta Centennial Legacies Grant Program
Alberta's centennial is a chance to celebrate our past and build lasting legacies for the future. The Alberta Centennial Legacies Grant Program helps municipalities, volunteer organizations and the province make tangible, memorable investments for future generations. This program has provided funding to construct or renovate public facilities in commemoration of the centennial.
The Alberta Centennial Legacies Grant Program provided $114 million for 103 community projects. Over $200 million has also been allocated to 12 provincial projects to develop legacies all Albertans can enjoy.
Per Capita Municipal Grant Program
The Government of Alberta has awarded a total of $10 million to incorporated municipalities through the Alberta Centennial Per Capita Municipal Grant Program.
Cities, specialized municipalities, municipal districts, towns, villages, summer villages, improvement districts, special areas, Métis Settlements and First Nations were all eligible to receive funding under the program. The grant amounts were calculated based on population as determined by the 2003 Official Population List. Incorporated municipalities with populations under 1,000 people received a base grant of $3,000. Incorporated municipalities with populations over 1,000 people received a per capita grant of $3.10 per person.
This funding gives municipalities an opportunity to create meaningful local projects that are sure to leave a legacy in their own special way.
